Great performances from both teams yesterday!
u14s - be very proud of the way you played, you did yourselves, the club and the Thundermite a great credit.
u13s - superb start to the League. We could have scored even more but I am more than happy with 3 points and +5 goal difference.
Well done everyone!

Well played the under 14's yesterday, if we play like that this season we'll be fine. Mr Berry you were awesome but each and every one of you putting in an outstanding performance. To hear the Elmwood Colts (last years County Cup Finalists) Manager say "You have a great Team there" at the end of the game, was testiment to your magnificent efforts. On the train to work this morning though, I still could not believe how we did not go in at half time at least 3-0 up! Still, that's footie and we can take a lot out of the game. Well done to each and every one of you. You did yourselves proud.

Under 13's - way to go! Fantastic result lads. TGFC have arrived in the Chelmsford League. Great start by a great team; keep it up boys.

Sean - look after that hammy, we want you back for our trip to the Rhinos on the 12th, Conor - great to see you at the game yesterday mate, look after that foot, we want you back for our opening League game v. Copeland. Tom - we need you, keep your nose clean, no more missing weekends please.

Boo - Happy Birthday big fella. Have a good one!

u14s - well done on an emphatic win yesterday. Let's take that form in to the competetive season.
u13s - great first half yesterday but with the injuries and the heat we didnt cope well second half against a very good team. We can learn a lot from the game so keep the heads up and lets go in to the next game with the confidence of the first half performance

Well done to both teams for their excellent performances yesterday. Great to get off to winning starts.

u13s - some excellent play and a few "rusty" periods but overall a good performance bearing in mind we hadn't played since May. Keep working on the fitness!!
Paul
07 September 2008 14:17:16
Well done U14's for a great win today. Although it was only a friendly, you played a very good team and made them look ordinary. Your passing, talking and desire to win was excellent. One or two midfielders need to work on their fitness, apart from that, it was an excellent display. What a goal by Samson ~ remember you can't cut your flowing locks until we lose and if we keep playing like we did today you might soon end up being called Rapunzel!!!

What a fantastic day Saturday turned out to be. Big thanks to Pete Mole for helping bring the whole thing together (and for the oven repair advice - working nicely again now mate!). Steve as ever did a great job on organising the footie, we made a few quid for the club and saw the season out in style.
And as for the new Guinness World Record for a Rounders match!! Brilliant fun. Sue "more lives than a cat" Mole and especially Julia "more bouncers than a West Indian fast bowler" Hards have left us with memories (no Julia I said memories) to treasure.
Enjoy the close season, missing you all already. See you all in Sept.

I was watching from behind the club house and saw some great skills! I will be contacting some of you over the coming weeks. During one of the matches I noticed a big fat elephant trying to do an overhead somersaulting kick and land on his side (DID NOT SCORE). I will not be signing a fat elephant at West Ham, now he has a broken Rib!!!!!!!

What a brilliant day!!! World Cup '08 was a great success thanks to the excellent organisation of the committee, and the behaviour and attitude of all the boys. Lakeside is the perfect location - where else could you spend a whole day (and night!) in exclusive extensive grounds, where the children can play safely and have the excellent facilities provided by Mark and Linda?? Worth every penny!!! As for the rounders game...... I am in agony, but would do it all again. In fact, how about relay races, sack races, three legged races etc for next year?? I'm planning already! (PS: Here's a question: What has the Bouncy Castle Company we used and Julia Hards got in common?)

Chapmans Drogba is an excellent player & he doesn't dive so much now you are just jealous that West Ham are not on the same level as Chelsea

As you might have noticed, I'm protecting Drogba, not Steve. He didn't get a red card, he had people holding up signs going 9.4, 9.5

Editor's note: Nice one George. Can't imagine where he gets the sarcastic streak from!

Great Presentation! Great Auction! Great Club!
A BIG thank you to Sue and Pete for securing the hall and decking it out to perfection and for doing the door and raffle - you two were very busy, to David for his best ever presentation DVD and short Secretaries AGM summing up (20 minutes my....), to Lee and "Thamesetta" for a superb legendary amazing auction that raised an extraordinary amount for the Club (particularly the cheque!) thanks lads, to Roger for paying more for a Hammers shirt than the West Ham squad is worth, to the under 13's Players and parents for the best gift ever - you really shouldn't have. To the Committee for stumping up the overspend on the trophies - but aren't they the best lads?! To Tony at AAtrophies - thanks again mate, another great job. To everyone who signed my sling (if your name is Ellie or Paige that is - the rest of you were out of order) - I had to go out and buy another first thing on Sunday morning! To the so and so who stole my chipolata sausage - my only prize secured from the buffet table. To the 24 hour McDonalds at Lakeside. To Phil Scolari for taking over at Chelsea. Aww shucks - thank you all - we love you guys!!! Timmeyhh!!!

What a great tour! On the pitch we competed against 2 County Champions, saved our best game til last and the boys did their Club proud. Well done lads - you were magnificent! Off the pitch we all had some great laughs; from Satnav Grant Seaman using the force to get to Hemsby, from "gyno" to "the gimp", TIMMEHHY!!!, Me convincing Debbie that the under 15's were very tall under 12's and Debbie saying she would ensure Dave checked their cards, Mr Bodimeade's banter, Everyone getting burned on Saturday and soaked on Sunday, Deano getting absolutely plastered then mistaking his hand for bread and putting it in the toaster at 2 am, Lee "I didn't start nothing...it was him", Kelly Ann's wellies and hats - the latter worn by Jason and Lee (we have the photos),Terry the Russian linesman, Sandra carrying three times her weight in kit and equipment, Sue bringing over the foreign Manager for me to meet "Transportah" and "Playerz like" indeed, Mark walking on stage to shake hands with Paul Walsh in the middle of the presentation and yesterday bringing his chalet key home "I didn't know what to do with it?!!!", our chant of "Is that all you take away?!!" to other teams while the banter was friendly in the Presentation Hall. I could go on and will do in the Newsletter.

But most of all, the boys from both our great teams thoroughly enjoyed themselves.

Thanks to everyone for the great company, Tracey for securing the funding to make it all possible, TGDC for the funding and David for the thankless, demanding and essential task of organising such a successful trip.

Next season Barca or Holland?......Wherever we go, even if we end up at Southend...I can't wait!

What a fantastic weekend we all had in Hemsby! The boys were all superb, they competed well in the matches against some good teams and they behaved brilliantly for the whole weekend.

And off the field the parents enjoyed themselves - the Colin Van Dyke show was something special and watching Sean and Paul demolish the mega breakfast was an experience in itself.
Great time, great friends, fantastic weekend. Roll on next year!

Well done to everyone on Tour at Hemsby, this weekend. The Wells' all thoroughly enjoyed themselves, largely due to the excellent company we kept all weekend. A special thanks to Dave for arranging the tour, especially in light of the fact that you had to change venues, how stressful was that for you? Let's hope we tour again next year, Europe we hear? Finally, we are now looking forward to the end of season Presentation on 14th June and Fun Day on July 5th ~ see you all again soon!

On behalf of everyone at the club I would like to offer my warmest congratulations to Stanford Wanderers. We had so many close games this season and they deserve to have won the league for the football they play.
Phil (Stanford Manager) phoned me last night to offer his team's thanks for getting a result against LTD. The Stanford boys cheered "Gateway, Gateway" when they heard we had drawn.
As Phil said, we shared the two major trophies and had another cracking final in the third competition (Pennant). Great to see such sporting attitude both in victory and defeat - true gentleman!! Thanks also to Syanford Coach Colin for his sporting gestures at both finals. Well done Stanford - we'll look forward to more great games next season.

u12s - what a season. We entered 3 competitions and came 1st, 2nd & 3rd. we have stepped up a division and you have done yourselves and the club proud. And we came so close to grabbing another medal yesterday! But the highlight of the season was the cup final - that was our main aim at the beginning of the season. It has been a joy to be a part of it, bring on next season, but first it's the tour!! Cant wait.
Thanks to all the parents for supporting the team all year, and of course a big thank you to Kev for his patience and help for every player. Great club, great people, great season!!

u12s - your effort this weekend was fantastic, the football against Stanford was superb and we are all very very proud of the great achievements this year. Two finals is amazing! You deserve great credit.
Well done to Stanford, as much as I wanted to win it was nice to see their players and coaches get rewarded for the great football they play. We are two very good teams who play in the right spirit and the matches this season have been great entertainment - if a bit tough on the nerves!!
Final big THANK YOU to Kev and all the parents for all the hard work to help the boys get the chance to play footie. Wouldnt want to be anywhere else each weekend, or with any other people!!

There was some great football today from both sides. Some of our goals would have graced a Premiership match but your achievement was not just today. You have all worked hard week in week out to earn your runners up medals and promotion. You have all made a fantastic contribution and should be proud of your efforts. It has been a pleasure to coach you this season.

The NHS were today forced to make a statement following concerns about Mr Bodimeade's hip injury sustained at Dad's footie last night. The statement reads "We the NHS are seriously concerned at Mr Bodimeade's decision to continue to play football after his hip injury last night. Mr Bodimeade has been advised that if he continues to play he is at serious risk. This is because we cannot find a replacement hip big enough to cover his seriously overly ample, lardy rear end" Mr Bodimeade was unvailable for comment after last being seen in Steve Hill's back pocket from 8pm to 9.30pm on Thursday evening.

And finally, thank you to the Lakeside Crew for a fantastic night of celebrations - is there any drink left??!! Let's do it again this Sunday - including the limos, bus, banners, flags, rosettes (thanks for the loan Nookie!) and the party afterwards - well maybe not... we have got work on Monday!!

I would like to say a big thank you to all the parents and fans who travelled to Great Wakering to support the boys. Clare and Roger did a magnificent job on the bus/limos, Pete Mole thanks for sorting the ties out - the boys looked like pros as they strolled around inspecting the pitch. Mark, Linda, Lucy & Joe were fantastic back at Lakeside (as ever).
Kevin - your patience and dedication to the boys and the club is an inspiration to us all. As parents we cannot thank you enough, as friends we think the world of you. But next time keep your shirt on!!
PLAYERS - you were simply superb. Stanford are a very good team and played well yesterday but you defended with passion and took the chances when they came.
Thank you to all of you for making this a very very memorable day. We are all very very proud of you.

Congratulations to our 12's on a magnificent Cup Final win. There were superb performances from every one of our players but to name just a few; CJ you were absolutely collossol at the back, Kieran was outstanding throughout the match, Michael was fantastic with some crucial tackles when we needed them late in the game, Harry was awesome, Kews was a dynamo in midfield and Bradley took his goal as cool as anything, he is the ice man! But everyone played their part in a historic and memorable victory - well done lads, you all thoroughly deserved it!

Dave, To clarify. I meant a premier league winners medal.

Bill - in that case I'll guess at another Gooner. Clichy won a medal I believe in 2004 as a bit part player behind Cashley Cole. Now wenger rates him the best in the league - certainly playing better than Cole!!

u12s - great performance and we now have another Cup Final to look forward to!
u13s - unlucky!! You have improved as a team so much this season and I am confident you can get the required points to gain the promotion you so richly deserve. Forget the disappointment and concentrate on winning the last two games. You should all be proud of what you have achieved already. Great bunch of lads and, in Steve and Paul, two great coaches. Though Steve Hill in that dodgy bright yellow kit almost made me blind!! He must have some nerve to go out in public like that.

Under 13's - great performance today lads. I want to say that it has been a pleasure coaching you this season, I am sure Paul will agree, and watching you develop as individuals and collectively as a Team over the years has been fantastic. At the start of the season we never dreamed we would be challenging for the promotion, let alone battling for the title especially after Ashley and Nick moved on, However we have replaced them with quality players in Robert and Sean and we are now a team to be taken seriously. Look at your fantastic record - 13 wins 2 draws and only 3 defeats and two more games to go - let's try to win those, secure runners up and then try and bring a trophy back from tour.

Steve Hill is reported to be making his long awaited comeback at Dad's Footie this evening. A source close to the Hill camp told us "the big fella has been on an intense training regime and will probably give Mileage a run for his money tonight. He has eaten more pasta than a coach load of Italians and is primed and ready to strike!".
A source close to Col "the hair" Bodimeade told us "the big guy had better watch his step, Col is livid about the Vidal Sassoon posting and is out for revenge".
We will bring you a full match report on this channel after the match.

U12's...........It was going to happen one day! You can all be proud of yourselves the way you took the defeat, any team in the world would be proud of not losing a game for over a year! You are still very capable of winning the league, are in a cup final and in contention for the pennant cup! At the beginning of the season I don't think anybody honestly thought that would be the case.So keep you heads up, be proud of what you have achieved and look forward!

Unlucky on Sunday boys. Even though it wasn't the best of performances in the first half you battled away in the second half but it didn't quite happen. Keep your heads up. You can still do the double. COME ON YOU THAMES!

Next week newsletter exclusive - we picture one of the 12's supposedly FIFA regulated pumped up balls. Judge for yourself.

Good luck to the under 12's tomorrow!!!
David Fox
23 February 2008 16:01:49
Contrary to Mr Hill's slanderous comments in the Newsletter I do not "google" the answers to the questions every time. Most I get without the need to.
Also, the u12s balls are within FIFA specification, as proved this morning to the Hill. Unfortunately, the u13s balls are, like Mr Hill, somewhat over inflated!!
Good luck to the u12s tomorrow, lets go for 3 points.
U13s - rest up, re-charge the batteries and come bak firing on all cylinders next week. Over by Easter!

Col - I know this one as I was actually a reserve ball boy at the last final!! I was 9 at the time. The answer is 1974. The FA Trophy and FA Vase competitions replaced it.
Score another to the Fox!!
Claude Makelele
20 February 2008 13:49:31
Bonjour, Monsieur Fox est correct. Je wasn't up to the job in 1998 mais I am now enjoying playing pour le Chelski. All of us Bleus recognise what an outstanding football knowledge David has. At training we refer to any one who is intelligent as playing the "Fox role". John terry and Lamps have not quite managed to perfect that un yet. Au Revoir et bon chance for the rest of le saison. Claude
David Fox
20 February 2008 13:46:09

I checked my Boys Own Book of Football and found Claude Makelele didnt actually make the France 98 squad, though he did play in the 96 Olympics! Just to be sure I rang Claude and he has confirmed it.

19 February 2008 21:18:27
Kieran - easy ones mate!! Julien was born August 1st 1983 in Le Havre, same day as Brett though a few years before.
Craig Bellamy made his first team Norwich debut in March 1997 against Crystal Palace.
Gonna have to try harder to beat the Fox!!!!!
David Fox
19 February 2008 21:14:32
Billy - come on let's have a difficult one. 1970, Old Trafford Chelsea beat Leeds 2-1 after a 2-2 draw at Wembley on the previous saturday. Wembley was like a swamp. Dave Webb headed the winner from a Ian Hutchinson long throw. I didnt even have to look this one up - it was the first cup final I ever watched and I have seen every one since, though a few from the early 80s are a bit of a drunken blur!!
Kieran O'shea

Message to all our under 13's
18 February 2008 16:48:33
Ok we only drew yesterday but have a look at the table and ask yourself "Which Team in our Division would you like to changes places with?"
The answer is, of course, we ARE STILL in TOP spot and are in the best position in the League. We wouldn't change places with any of them. WE ARE IN POLE POSITION - WE'RE TOP!!!
Any Devils, Thurrock, Corringham visitors to our site; hope you enjoyed our wobble because we are not going anywhere!!!
You HAVE to win ALL your remaining games to have ANY chance - we know what we have to do and we intend to do it!!!!!

David Fox
17 February 2008 22:13:07
u13s - unlucky today but keep your heads up. This is where you need to work even harder, listen to Steve and Paul and carry on giving 100%. Your parents, families and friends are all behind you and know you have what it takes to win the title. Now you start to believe it and play like we all know you can. The points will keep coming.
Steve
17 February 2008 17:19:00
Challenge for our defence - we gave away three goals today, so how about making up for it with three clean sheets in our next three games?
David Fox
17 February 2008 12:49:29
Steve - the team do get their stamina from Kev's training. My "briefing" at the end is what motivates the team to play well. It's simple, win or I'll drone on for 20 minutes at the end of training!!! I appreciate your methods are different - no way could you hold anyone's attention for more than 5 seconds!! Up the Gateway!!!!
Steve
17 February 2008 11:01:32
Good luck to the under 13's today.
Under 12's - do you really need a lie in after David sent you to sleep after training yesterday?
Under 13's camp to Under 12's
17 February 2008 11:00:00
12's, it was only yesterday that we realised how well you have really done week in week out for the last few seasons. Your stamina obviously comes from having to listen to Mr Fox and his verbal marathons after training. We waited about an hour for our snazzy new TGFC kit bags while he bored you all to sleep. What did he have to talk about? You didn't have a game on Sunday, perhaps he was enlightening you on the current World economic downturn, the middle east crisis, the latest on the US Presidential elections? Who knows?! We thought he would take the hint with the slow handclap and the chants of "Is that all you've got to say?" but no. All the time we thought it was Kevin's training but clearly your stamina comes from Dave's chin wags - rather you than us.......Up the Gateway!!!
Harry

David Fox
13 February 2008 18:00:38
OK Harry I think I have the answer but I'm not sure as I cannot find a photo to confirm it.
I believe Beckham was in the stands with Brooklyn (and Ryan Giggs) for the 2-1 defeat to Bolton in October 2001 at Old Trafford. I think they were eating Smoky Beckham crisps - a special edition made by Walkers.

13's - You have worked hard this season as evidenced by the fact that we can afford our "off" day yesterday.
The title is still very much in our hands - if we win 8 more in a row we're champions, it's as simple as that!
We will work on the things we did not do well yesterday, at training on Saturday - they are easy to put right and together, we will put them right.
I am really looking forward to Sunday when we will bounce back!
12's - Congratulations on your Pennant win yesterday, well done lads!

Congratulations to the U12's for making the Final ~ winning your semi-final match yesterday was a fantastic result, we are all proud of you and we'll all be there to support you in the Final itself. Possibly 3 winners trophies in two years? What a team! Congratulations to both Kevin and Dave too.
Also both Steve and I are delighted at the U13's for winning their 11th game (out of 11) yesterday, on what was more of a bumpy dry-ski slope than a football pitch. 9 games to go, can we go all season without losing? If you keep playing the way you are we will be extremely difficult to beat this year. See you all on Saturday!

Just a quick post to say how well the 12's are doing this season. The Champions have gone up to the Pemier and are challenging for the title. Many Teams 2-0 down away to Stanford would have given up, not us, to battle back and earn a point is magnificent. Cup semi finalists and Premier title contenders in their first season - fantastic! Well played lads!

What a great game today. Very tough. Great result, although we believe another 5 minutes and we would have clinched it. Anyway, not bad against a team with 20 coaches! :-)

David - yeah thanks for that. It gets worse, I bumped into a familiar face while walking round Lakeside (awaiting for my rescue) an unnamed under 13's player who was out with his mates. Despite my attempts to say hello, I obviously was not cool enough and was promptly blanked and waved away.

Great result for the u13s today in difficult windy conditions. The team looked a little rusty after the extended lay off but nine wins from nine games tells its own story.
Well played everyone - good to get the chance to watch you play. Keep it up, glory beckons!
Steve

Well played the 13's today - nine wins from nine is a fantastic achievement. We were a little off form today because of the conditions and the fact that this was our first game in six weeks but the sign of a good team is to win even when not playing at your best and that's what we did today. Gateway on three..........GATEWAY!!!

HAPPY NEW YEAR to everyone involved with TGFC. It's going to be a great 2008!
Boys are back training Saturday and for those Dads who have put on a few pounds over Christmas I am happy to report that Dad's footie kicks off at 8pm Thursday 3rd January as usual. Personally the flu has caused me to lose a few pounds (I know I didnt need to lose any and that steve is jealous of my physique) but I'll be ready to kick Brett as usual Thursday night. Wrap up warm though - we may even need an orange ball if the forecast is correct!
Steve

Happy New Year to everyone!
I can beat David, I have had the man flu for the last three weeks and still have a nasty cough. I think I caught it off David after he kissed me after one of my many Thursday night goals. However, I'm really looking forward to seeing everyone again on Saturday and to start getting back in the swing of things.
I would like to reassure all our under 13 players that nobody is going anywhere in the transfer window.
Thanks to Graham for his posting (and David's) and thanks to everyone for the numerous texts and messages over the Christmas and New Year holiday - I also bumped into Big Ash, Col, Sally and Boo and Dave H and CJ at Lakeside, the latter two were over the moon at the shock news that West Ham were leading Manure 2-1.
Well, there's two titles, a Cup and two tour trophies up for grabs and we have two great Teams who can do it.....over to you lads!
See you all on Saturday morning for some hard work on the training ground.
Dad's - 4cm of snow forcast and Foxy is still expecting us there tomorrow night? What's he done - had undersoil heating installed?

Well said Graham. The big fella works his sock off for the boys and the club but prefers to keep quiet about it. He has done so much again this season, not just with Paul on the coaching side but also on organising new kit/equipment, games and of course the superb Newsletter every week.
Well done Steve - we all really appreciate your hard work and I am especially pleased that you take the time to add so much joy to my otherwise dull life. As reported in Newsletter!
