11 May 2008 - RESULT - u12s edged out in final

STANFORD WANDERERS  2-1  THAMES GATEWAY

Another Sunday, another cup final, another cracking match with Stanford.  This time Thames took an early lead when Pearce sent in a great cross and B Harris got their ahead of the keeper.  Thames were on top for the next 10 mins but couldn't find the finish to match the approach play.  As the half wore on Stanford grew in to the game and forced a super save from LoraineC Harris was commanding at the back and Chulakasevee was playing superb in the middle.

The second half started with a chance for Thames but Muller's shot was saved well.  Stanford then scored with a long shot to make it 1-1.  The game continued to be tight with both teams giving everything in the heat.  And with 7 mins to go Stanford made it 2-1 with a very well taken goal.

It was good to see the Thames players respond to the defeat with the same good grace as Stanford had done in the League Cup final.  No one at Thames will begrudge Stanford this prize for their super football all season.

A sporting match, an entertaining match and, ultimately all the players from both teams come out winners from the two finals.  Well played both teams and congratulations to Phil, Colin and everyone at Stanford.
