28 Sep 2008 - RESULT - u13s start with a win

Hutton  3 - 8   Thames Gateway

Our first match in the Chelmsford League and it couldn’t have gone better.  Right from kick off we went on the attack and after just 5 minutes had taken the lead from a headed goal by Matthew from a corner from Bradley.

Joshua made it 2-0 with a great solo effort before Hutton pulled one back.  But we took a 4-1 lead in to the break after Harry scored two superb headers, both from crosses supplied by Jamie.

Hutton scored a well worked goal early in the second half but within 4 minutes Jake turned a defender in the area and struck a sweet left foot shot for 5-2.  Bradley made it 6-2 from the tightest of angles before Hutton capitalised on a couple of mistakes for 6-3.

But Thames finished the stronger of the teams scoring two more in the last two minutes – a headed goal from Matthew which the lino said didn’t cross the goal line but the ref said did and a fierce strike from Bradley from the edge of the area.

In truth we should have scored more, our finishing was a little below par at times and both Hutton keepers made a number of good saves.

But we will certainly not be disappointed with either the result or the performance, both were just what we needed to get our League campaign off to a great start.

Our thanks to Hutton and ref Matt Singh who played their part in an entertaining, free flowing and good spirited match.  Well done boys – great start!

Man of the Match – Matthew.  An inspiration in the middle and two superb headed goals.
